Overwhelmed

Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2

OverwhelmedOvercome, stunned, bury or drown beneath a huge mass:  give too much of a thing to (someone); inundate: have a strong emotional effect on:

When I become overwhelmed, I need super strength- a strength bigger and more capable than my ability.  I need a resource beyond human understanding. I need peace I’m not capable of explaining. I need to feel love I haven’t yet attained. I need guidance, hope, understanding, grace, and mercy. I need my Rock.  I need “The Rock that is higher than I.”

Life is overwhelming. Isn’t it good we have the Rock? Isn’t it good we know The Rock? God is our source through His Son, Jesus. The Holy Spirit understands our tears. He understands every emotion even when we don’t. He understands our rollercoaster ride.

It’s easy to go to the Rock when we are overwhelmed. It seems only natural. It’s so much better, though, when we go to Him every day. It’s good when we read His Word, pray, and ask Him for directions when life seems easy. Our Rock can become our best friend in our normal daily routine. He desires a relationship with us.

When we spend time day in and day out with our best friend, we begin to know the end of their sentences. That’s how it is with our relationship with God. When we search His word and talk with Him each day, we begin to know what He would say and how He might feel about any number of things. Having that knowledge comes in handy when the weight of the world is on your shoulders.

Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:1-2
