Letting Go
My husband, daughter, and I had the opportunity to enjoy a “Staycation” the week between Christmas and New Year. I’m not much into staying at home for a vacation, but this was truly a time of reflection and refreshing that I am very thankful for.
2021 was a year of gradual and continual moves forward for our family after a terrible 2020. Like most, we found ourselves digging out of loss, heartache, isolation, stress and uncertainly that came with 2020. Some of you found yourselves digging out of new grief and heartache in 2021 during your time of trying to dig out of 2020’s debris.
Moving forward means letting go and letting go often comes in stages. Wherever you are in your quest to move forward, I pray you begin with letting go. What are you letting go of? What are you trying to move forward from? I challenge you to let go today. This day, let go. I know it’s easy for me to say, right?
It dawned on me during my pastor’s message that It took a whole year for me to let go of things I didn’t even realize I was still hanging on to. But I also realized as deliberately as I was wanting to move forward in 2021 and leave 2020 behind (it was very deliberate), I didn’t have the ability to make myself move forward any quicker. My timetable is fast forward. God had a different timetable. His timing is always best.
Letting go is both hard and easy. It’s easy to make a declaration to let go. It’s more difficult to live it out.
My challenge for you today- Let go. Make the declaration. At least say the words… “I am letting go.” When you say the words and place it in God’s hands, He will work miracles as you begin living it out. He will do the rest. You don’t need to do anything else.
Today is the day. Make a list and let go. 2 months from now, even a year from now like me, you’ll wake up after a full night’s rest or a day of real relaxation and realize you really did let go, but God did the rest…the most important part.
Just let go, God will do the rest.
